I did this piece as a workshop for ImagineFX (issue #16). The point of the workshop was to show my creative process for creating original creatures. For me, a big part of that is starting with a background story of some kind - so I made up this scenario: forest troll in the woods [he's an ambush predator] sees some pretty lights and uses his lightening fast reflexes to 'catch' one as they flutter by. In his ignorance, his terrible strength crushes a poor fairy [who, when dancing in the forest, create the most beautiful lights]. Slowly the dumb troll begins to realize something's wrong as the magical fairy light begins to fade...
