As long as I can remember, I've been drawing. My parents lovingly indulged my maniacal thirst for pencils, crayons and markers with which I penned my epic doodles. Man, I drew on anything and everything – paper, tables, floors, walls, windows, laundry, mashed potatoes, pencil cases, binders and book bags. I would decal the world of my early youth with astronauts on far distant planets, spaceships, warriors battling vile creatures and super heroes dispatching gun-wielding bandits. My love of drawing weird and wonderful things runs deep and thankful I've retained this addiction into my later years (although I no longer go about vandalizing furniture).
I blame Saturday morning cartoons, the muppets, comics, Commodore 64 games and old monster / sci-fi / kung fu movies for rotting my young and impressionable mind. Later, my psychosis grew under the influence of deviants such as Frank Frazetta, Syd Mead, John Howe, Ashley Wood and the likes of Feng Zhu, Ryan Church, Iain McCaig and Carlos Huante. Getting hooked on games... I blame that on my older brother when he got a Commodore 64 for Christmas. Then came the fist gaming consoles; Atari, Nintendo and Playstation. Worlds and creatures suddenly exploded onto the screen in front of me to play. My creativity quickly expanded to new heights as I imagined these new worlds and creatures in my drawings.
So, anyway... aside from playing video games and drawing ALOT, what have I done with my life? I graduated from two community collages obtaining Commercial Art and Fine Arts diplomas. I completed third year at the Nova Scotia Collage of Art and Design but got called to the work force a year before I could get my BFA (keep meaning to finish that).
I've worked as a Graphic Designer for four years before getting into the television industry and storyboarding for animation. Fun times. I've also done freelance storyboarding and illustration for TV commercials, stop motion animation, comics, music videos, short film and personal projects with friends and co-workers. I've done freelance work for Irrational Games Australia and spent a year in Germany working as a concept artist for an independant game developer (Acony). Currently I'm located in Chicago and employed as a concept artist for Day 1 Studios.
